Architects
Architects
are relied upon for their expertise in conceptualizing the project and
for creating complex structural designs. If you are changing the original
structure of your home you will need to use an architect to ensure that
the building is structurally sound and complies with building codes. These
drawings will be used by all of the professionals working on your project
and will also be submitted to the city building department.
Depending upon your requirements, your Architect may even oversee the
construction and guide plans through the engineering and approval processes--but
this is not the norm. You may also want to ask your Architect if he or
she can recommend specific contractors that will match your project level.
Architect's fees vary from a flat fee, an hourly rate, or may be a percentage
of the construction cost for large jobs. You can locate an Architect through
The American
Institute of Architects (AIA).
