Windows
and Doors
Windows
and doors are an important part of the design, function, and aesthetics
of your new kitchen. With a little forethought, they can be strategically
placed to take advantage of the special views and orientation of your
site. In addition to providing a source of egress and ventilation, they
can also serve as a stylized focal point. As with most things, more is
not always better. Make your windows and doors create a theme for your
entire home. Maintain continuity and balance so your home will look as
good from the outside as it does from the inside.
If your current windows and doors are not in proper working order, this
is a great time to make a change. Today's windows and doors come in many
styles, sizes, colors, frame materials, insulation levels, glass types,
security lock and alarm versions, and warranties. Check out window and
door manufacturers' web sites and brochures to see all the new features
that make them more energy efficient and easier to clean and maintain.
The Window and Door Manufacturers Association WDMA
formulates and promotes high standards of performance for the products
of the window, skylight and door industry. Check to see if the windows
and doors that you have selected meet their high industry standards. Choose
a manufacturer and installer with long-term experience that will be around
years down the road should you need to apply their warranty.
Things to look for in a window or door:
· quality construction
· precision millwork--check the corners
· check the seal
· selection of styles
· selection of insulating options
· selection of hardware options
· warranty on glass and on components--they may not be the same length
