Stainless Steel Sinks Stainless
steel is considered the sink material with the best value and most durability.
It will not chip or crack--however it can dent and scratch. Therefore
you should look for 20 or 18 gauge steel to resist dents and reduce noise.
The smaller the gauge number the thicker the metal. Compare a 20 or 18
gauge steel sink--anything above 20 gauges can look and sound like tinfoil.
In addition check the chromium content level making sure it is at least
18% with 8% nickel, otherwise the metal tends to rust and loose it's gleam.
Look for stainless steel sinks that have a factory applied sound-deadening
undercoating--this will further reduce noise. There are two finish options
with stainless steel high luster or brushed satin finish. The later is
easier to maintain and has less tendency to show surface marks. To keep
stainless steel sinks looking good, use a non-abrasive cleanser, a soft
pad and frequently wipe down water spots with a dry cloth.
