Outdoor Refrigerators Within the island setting of an "outdoor kitchen," the undercounter refrigerator is the most popular. Counter space above the refrigerator is an added plus. Some models include an automatic ice maker. Individual ice maker units are also designed to be installed under the counter. In colder climates, both units should be disconnected, drained and stored inside. You need to be sure to purchase a model that is UL approved for outdoor use. Most are designed with a stainless steel door to match the other outdoor appliances. Another outdoor refrigeration option is a half keg beer dispenser. This unit can handle half or quarter kegs and includes a draft tower, CO2 tank, and regulator. The unit can be built in to fit under the counter; however, optional casters allow you to move it around on your deck or patio.
