Microwave Ovens

The microwave is now considered a standard appliance by most homeowners. It is invaluable when defrosting or re-heating foods. You can't "brown" in a microwave oven, so if you want to use it to bake and roast, check out the combination microwave/convection oven (this unit consists of a fan and electric radiant-heat element). Additional features include child lockouts, keypad releases, automatic defrosting and a range of preprogrammed settings for pizza, popcorn, packaged dinners, etc. Many now also have sensors designed to monitor when a meal has shed its water through cooking and indicate that the meal is ready.

Microwave units can be installed to look built-in, hang from wall cabinetry, or used as a recirculating exhaust fan above the range. A trim kit (to match the cabinetry) must be installed to make the microwave look built-in. It is best to locate your microwave near your refrigerator/freezer with an adjacent counter on which to place hot items. Also, keep in mind when deciding on placement of the microwave that most are hinged on the left with some models that are hinged at the bottom (to open downward). The size of a microwave oven is measured in cubic feet according to the oven capacity. Units measure from .5 cubic feet to 1.8 cubic feet. Power is measured in watts with 1100 watts the current maximum.
