Energy Efficient

Purchasing energy efficient appliances help preserve our natural resources and save you money. The purchase price of any appliance is only one consideration of total cost. Over the life of the appliance you will incur expenses for energy usage, maintenance, and repairs. In the long run, you don't always save money by buying an appliance with the lowest purchase price.

Most energy saving features are on the inside (motors, compressors, pumps, valves, and seals). However, it is also important to look for appliances with additional insulation and door gaskets on ovens and refrigerators that are tight fitting. Ask a salesperson for energy usage information on the models in which you interested or read the Energy Guide label (yellow) to compare the efficiency of various brands. An appliance receives an EnergyGuide label if it significantly reduces energy consumption beyond the minimum government standards. The amount by which the appliance exceeds the minimum standards varies for each product rated. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has developed a list by product category and brand name and can be reached at Energy Star®. Another site for tips on lowering energy use is from the Department of Energy.
