Configuration
Refrigerator/Freezer
configurations of side by side, refrigerator on bottom/freezer on top,
and refrigerator on top/freezer on bottom give you the option to match
your personal reach and style. It is also determined by the size and layout
of your kitchen. Units with top/bottom configurations need room for a
large door swing. A side by side unit may be right for you if the width
of the door swing is a concern. However, its design creates a narrower
refrigerator and freezer compartment, which may cause some difficulty
storing large items.
No matter what configuration you choose, make sure you leave enough room
to open the doors in order to completely access the drawers and/or other
slide-out features of your refrigerator/freezer. This is often a problem
when units are placed next to a wall. As door clearances vary widely,
check the installation specifications for your model to determine the
minimum requirements for clearance next to a wall. Installation specifications
should be available from your appliance showroom representative or from
the manufacturer via a product brochure or online.
