Central
Vacuums
Boasting convenience, affordability, a healthier indoor environment, and
the most powerful cleaning tool available, a central vacuum system "takes
the cake". It does not recirculate dust, and because it is lightweight,
it appeals to many people including those with restricted mobility. The
average cost per system is about $1,500 (installed) and holds its resale
value. Installation can be done by a professional central vacuum dealer
or by an experienced DIY'er. These systems have three basic components:
· a power/collection unit often stored in the basement, garage,
or other storage space (thus making it more quiet inside the home)
· PVC tubes (installed in walls, ceiling and/or under floors) connect
the power unit to strategically placed wall inlet valves (approximately
three wall inlets can service up to a 2200 sq. ft. home)
· Lightweight vacuum hose (usually 30' - 35' long) with easy to
connect attachments
A great feature of central vacuums is the automatic "dustpan"
attachment for kitchens and other rooms that you sweep with a broom. This
feature quickly and quietly expels dust and debris into a vent located
in the toekick of your base cabinets or at the base of a wall. The suction
action is activated by the flip of a toe switch.
