Boxed-In

Consider a boxed-in unit if you don't want the cost of a built-in unit--but want the look of one. Because there is such a high demand for the built-in look, manufacturers are designing refrigerators that are hybrid units--a cross between built-in and freestanding units. These hybrid units are less money than true built-in models but are 24 - 27" deep and can accept refrigerator panels.

The boxed-in look is created by placing tall side panels and a 24" deep wall cabinet above a 24"- 27" deep freestanding refrigerator. This "wall cabinet" should be slightly wider than the unit for air circulation. The refrigerator will still protrude slightly beyond the side panels. If you wish to make the unit flush with the cabinetry at 24", you may be able to remove the drywall and studs in the wall directly behind the unit or "pull" the base or tall cabinets along that wall to accommodate the deeper depth.

Height 64" - 71"
Width 30" - 36"
Depth 27" - 33" (24" hybrid)
Compressor 1
Note: uses a freestanding unit, but you can adjust the cabinetry to make it appear built-in
