Backsplash A
backsplash is the area of wall that is just above and behind the countertop--usually
behind the sink and cooktop areas. It can range in material and height.
Backsplashes can be fabricated with a cove backsplash (that usually rises
up 4 inches) to a separate backsplash that reaches to your upper cabinets.
The function of the backsplash is to protect your walls and make the area
that "receives the most splashes (water or food) easier to clean. Depending
upon your budget, you may want to include some custom tiles or a stone
slab. You may even have a different backsplash for your sink and cooktop
areas. It can be a focal point or blend-in to disappear and let the cabinets
or hardware take center stage.
