Additional
Options
Some
additional options for windows and doors include the type of glass: tinted,
textured, leaded, and beveled. If you like the look of beveled glass,
but not the price, ask your window representative if they have the equipment
to apply 3M Accentrim products (which simulate the look of
beveled glass via special tapes and trims).
Screens and storms can add extra value to your new window or door. Check
out standard add-on screens, roll type screens (from the top for windows
and from the side for doors), storm windows (not needed with double and
triple pane windows), storm/screen doors (added protection for your home
and exterior door), and combination storms and screens.
Muntins (sometimes called grilles) are the bars that create a pattern
in the window. They can be created as an integral part of the window (7/8"
historic look), as a permanent add-on, or as a "snap-on" removable piece.
The "snap-on" feature makes for easy cleaning. However, it is only attached
to the inside of the window so it doesn't have the same look as authentic
integral muntins. Some manufacturers are addressing this issue by permanently
adhering "muntins" to both the inside and outside of the glass. Often
this feature is combined with a faux "internal muntin" located between
the double pane glass. Hardware is another option that can offer you some
personalization.
