Outdoor
Kitchens
An
outdoor kitchen is fast becoming an extension of the indoor kitchen. Cookouts
have been a favorite warm-weather pleasure for generations. Designing
an outdoor kitchen will keep you from having to move everything from inside
your kitchen to the outdoor entertainment area.
Outdoor kitchens usually include a grill, countertop space for food preparation,
and refrigeration. A sink is now becoming more popular to add to the configuration.
Location is important since the purpose is to save steps to and from the
house as well as add entertainment appeal. Most outdoor kitchens are installed
in an existing backyard patio. Decks require additional support if you
include all of the above components.
Expenses will be incurred purchasing appliances, preparing the location,
and installing electric, water and natural gas lines. Electric outlets
will also need to be included which require Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters
(GFCI's). Local codes may have regulations on burying electric cable and
gas lines (they are usually required to be buried in separate trenches).

Outdoor kitchens will need adequate lighting. Landscape lighting not only
provides general and task lighting, but accent lighting as well. It can
be used to create dramatic effects by casting shadows from plantings and
trees. Lighting creates an outdoor "artistic" feature that can be enjoyed
inside or out. Different types can be seen by linking to "Lighting Tips"

the use of your outdoor kitchen in cold-weather regions.
