Motifs

The most common kitchen "motifs" or decorating styles are:
· Contemporary (Arts & Crafts, Art Deco, clean/geometric lines)
· Country (basic, casual, relaxed, simple and handcrafted)
· Cottage (English-country style, cozy, casual, warm and slightly worn)
· Provencal (French-country style, Mediterranean earth tones, aged, distressed ceiling beams)
· Shaker (simple, utilitarian, no frills/only essentials, clean lines with plain geometric shapes)
· Arts & Crafts (simple, earthy, elements of nature, and organic objects used in harmony-specific styles include Mission, Craftsman, and Prairie)
· Traditional (dark jewel-tones, dark woods [i.e. cherry], warm, rich, classical architectural features)
· Urban (stainless-steel commercial-grade appliances, natural materials, clean lines, high functionality, no clutter)
· Coastal (light colors, reflective surfaces, many windows and light sources, natural materials, open arrangement)
· Rustic (exposed ceiling beams, natural woods, natural plaster, stone counters and floors, minimum overhead cabinets-open shelves instead)
· Vintage (reproduction tile walls and floors, glass front white cabinets, stainless-steel/chrome faucets, fixtures, and hardware, wooden countertops and reproduction appliances)
· Eclectic (a mixture of textures, colors, styles, materials done in an artistic, yet functional fashion)
· Gourmet (area for entertaining during food preparation, stainless-steel commercial-grade appliances, open shelves, pot/pan racks, multiple sinks, highly efficient and functional, small work triangle)
· Eastern (open to rest of house, adjacent to garden, maximum natural light, clean lines, no clutter, highly functional, stainless-steel commercial-grade appliances, wok area, natural materials, sleek accent lighting)
· European (compact, stainless-steel sink, counter, and appliances, clean lines, bold colors of laminate cabinetry, frosted glass cabinet fronts, cabinet or plate rack over sink, no clutter, functional pieces serve as art)

VOTE for Amreicas Greatest Dream Kitchen
Share Our Strength, one of the nation's leading anti-hunger, anti-poverty organizations began in the basement of a row house on Capitol Hill in 1984. In the beginning, we organized a handful of chefs to cook for fundraisers. Today we mobilize thousands of individuals in the culinary industry to organize events, host dinners, teach cooking and nutrition classes to low-income families and serve as anti-hunger advocates.
