Insurance
Before
you hire a professional for the remodel, you might want to check your
current homeowner's policy to see if you have coverage in the event that
someone is injured during the process. A professional contractor should
be licensed, bonded and have worker's compensation insurance. If the contractor
has let his/her insurance lapse, however, you should be sure you are covered
on your own policy so he/she cannot sue you for costs from an injury.
Another insurance issue is coverage for theft of delivered materials,
fire destroying unfinished work, and liability of anyone other than contractors
(i.e., children, neighbors, delivery people) getting hurt on the work
site.
You will be increasing the value of your home through your kitchen renovation
so you may want to upgrade you homeowner's policy. Doing a complete home
inventory is a good start. The receipts you have saved for your kitchen
appliances and cabinetry will be beneficial in determining the correct
value of your new kitchen. For additional information, link to "Review

You may be eligible for insurance discounts if you include a security
system, timed and/or energy efficient appliances, new windows with security
locks, and sensor lighting. Check with your insurance agent for more details.
