Design
When
deciding on the style and size or your new kitchen, keep in mind the exterior
façade of your home, interior layout, and value of neighboring homes.
You may decide to put a sleek, contemporary kitchen into a Colonial or
Tudor home and then find it difficult to locate the right buyer when it's
time to sell. However, just because you are trying to maintain a certain
style, doesn't mean that your kitchen can't be unique and efficient.
Kitchen designs can be classified as either fitted or unfitted. Fitted
kitchens place work centers within connecting wall to wall cabinetry.
This style of kitchen is more formal and wisely uses the space available.
Unfitted kitchens, on the other hand, take a more informal approach, and
the work centers are individual elements that are often not connected.
You may see furniture pieces used as pantries and cabinets. If your kitchen
is rather small this may not be the right style, as it does not provide
the best use of space. These two styles can also be combined to create
a blend somewhere in the middle.
