Cabinet-Maker

Cabinet-makers generally work from a carpentry shop, however some may even have a showroom to display their most popular cabinet models. Cabinet-makers build custom cabinetry to specifications provided by an Architect, Kitchen Designer, Interior Designer, Contractor or homeowner. A variety of wood species and laminates are generally used with custom cabinetry offering a selection of finishes. Keep in mind that a cabinet-maker's specialty is carpentry. If they have their own showroom, they may employ a Kitchen Designer or salesperson that can assist you with the design and coordinate all the other installation facets as well. Cabinet-makers also employ experienced carpenters who build some components in their shop, while most of the work is completed on-site in your home.

Cabinet-makers, when building a new kitchen or doing a complete remodel, offer a unique niche by having the ability to "customize" an existing kitchen. If you are planning a "face-lift" or minor remodel, consider a cabinet-maker who can provide intricate architectural changes to existing cabinetry. This is most often done when the current cabinetry is in good condition and/or the layout is sufficient for your needs.

Cabinet-makers can replace cabinet doors with beveled, stained, or plain glass inserts, glass/mullion inserts, pressed tin inserts, etc. Moldings, decorative trim, door and side panels can all be handcrafted by a cabinet-maker and added to existing cabinetry. They can also change your existing cabinetry by rearranging units for better traffic flow of function.

A cabinet-maker can install new counters, sinks, and appliances, however, you may have to purchase appliances, plumbing and lighting fixtures independently. You may, in fact, need to hire a Contractor for plumbing, tile work, and electrical changes. Some cabinet-makers can install hardwood flooring, but other flooring options may require you to hire a separate installer.
