Builder
Builders
can be an independent company or a Design/Build firm. If hiring a Builder,
you will still need to hire a designer. The Design/Build firms have incorporated
both aspects under one company. Check out both options.
When constructing a new home, you will generally have an allocated "budget"
for the kitchen. If purchasing a "spec" home, the layout of the kitchen
may already be completed and you will only be able to make cosmetic changes
and/or additions. The Builder may work with you directly on purchasing
and ordering materials, or coordinate these efforts with the Designer
(either theirs or yours).
Some builders use cabinet-makers for custom cabinetry and some have working
relationships with specified cabinet showrooms. If this is the case, you
will take the floor plans to this showroom to select cabinetry. Some cabinet
showrooms can also assist you in selecting appliances, fixtures, etc.
Flooring and lighting may be handled separately by the Builder.
