Surviving
Construction
It
has been said that the most stressful thing in the life is a death in
the family--moving and major construction projects rank 2nd. It is a very
stressful time, and at some point "something" is going to get on someone's
nerves. The best way to avoid this situation is to prepare yourself, your
family, and your home for the upcoming challenge. You will need to prepare
the house, communicate effectively, and maintain a favorable and safe
environment for all concerned.
If there is a conflict between you and your contractor that can not be
resolved together, try some of the resolution suggestions listed in "Conflict
Resolution" in our Planning Phase. You might also link to ImproveNet.com's
"Communication
and Conflict Resolution".
Recognize that a "Mechanics' Lien" can be placed on your home by one of
your contractors for lack of payment. Any and all liens must be settled
before a home can be sold. Visit "Mechanics'
Liens" for more information.
